๐ At the recent Global Anti-Scam Summit (GASS) Europe 2024, we had Ruben V. of Politie Nederland join us for another Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA) event. Ruben took the time to share valuable insights into why events like these are crucial in the fight against cybercrime.Teaming up with his colleague Frederiek Burlage, the Dutch police delivered a compelling presentation that highlighted the growing importance of public-private partnerships in combating cyber threats. Their core message revolved around the need for innovative approaches to victim prevention and the disruption of criminal business models.Key takeaways from their presentation included the importance of sharing data from police investigations to aid in preventing cybercrime and the success of initiatives like "No More Leaks," which is a public-private partnership aimed at stopping the abuse of stolen credentials. An important focus was the critical role of collaboration between law enforcement and private sector entities plays in developing effective anti-fraud measures. The presentation concluded with a call to action for more organizations to join efforts in creating a safer digital environment for everyone. For those interested in the detailed strategies and solutions discussed, you can find the full presentation here: https://lnkd.in/eRn_AjY3#GASS2024 #CyberSecurity #PublicPrivatePartnerships #PolitieNederland Peter Hagenaars Lensen Aad Theo van der Plas #CyberCrimePrevention #NoMoreLeaks

As part of an operation, the FBI infiltrated and disrupted the notorious ALPHV BlackCat group's operations known for their namesake #ransomware. Notably, they seized the group's #darkweb site and released a decryption tool which would help restore operations for hundreds of victims. However, the situation took an interesting turn when BlackCat regained control of their site. They escalated their operations by promising higher commissions (up to 90%) to affiliates and lifting restrictions on targeting critical infrastructures like hospitals and power plants. We're seeing a new phase in cybercrime - LEA's continue to employ advanced tactics to combat cybercriminals. On the other hand, #cybercrime groups like BlackCat are evolving, becoming more audacious and sophisticated in their operations. They capitalized on the seizure of their website and converted it into an opportunity to draw in more threat actors. Additional details provided via a link in the comments.

"What is known to date is that the Sea Turtle group focuses primarily on targeting organizations in Europe and the Middle East. Research suggests this threat actor primarily focuses on governmental bodies, Kurdish (political) groups such as PKK, NGOs, telecommunication entities, ISPs, IT service providers, and Media & Entertainment organisations, mainly aiming at repositories housing valuable and sensitive data. As noted by PwC, telecommunication companies safeguard customer information such as metadata pertaining to website connections and call logs. Additionally, companies providing technological services such as ISP hosting, IT, and cybersecurity are susceptible to attacks directly or through supply chains and island-hopping strategies. When successful, the stolen information is then most likely utilized for surveillance or gathering intelligence on specific targets. The modus operandi of Sea Turtle involves intercepting internet traffic directed at victimized websites, potentially allowing unauthorized access to government networks and other organizational systems."

Operation Endgame โ Global Whac-a-Mole in the win column โ for nowโฆThe Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) proudly announces Operation Endgame, a multinational effort to dismantle a vast cybercriminal network. Law enforcement agencies from the U.S., Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, the U.K., and others joined forces with Europol and Eurojust. Starting May 28, 2024, this cyber offensive involved arresting suspects, conducting searches, and dismantling over 100 servers hosting malware, many sponsored by nation states. But let's cut through the celebration: despite the fanfare, cybercriminals remain as elusive as ever. The bad actors slip through the fingers of the long arm of the law, adapting and regrouping even as we toast to this fleeting victory.Operation Endgame shows our commitment to global cybersecurity," said FBI Director Christopher Wray.Yet, as we strike one blow, the digital Hydra grows new heads. The fight against cybercrime is relentless and ever-evolving."In reality, this "victory" is a reminder of how outmaneuvered we continue to be. The digital landscape is an endless cat-and-mouse game, where today's triumph is merely tomorrow's challenge.Stay vigilant, stay safe, and face the truth: the battle against cybercrime is far from over. #OperationEndgame #Cybersecurity #FBI #GlobalEffort #CybercrimeWe help organizations execute their cyber defense strategies while reducing risk. https://lnkd.in/g9Ukkgz7
